New scuba depth record: 1,090 feet
On September 18, 2014, Ahmed Gabr, a 43-year-old Egyptian broke Nuno Gomez' previous depth record of 1,044 feet. Both record were done in the Red Sea off the coast of Dahab in Egypt. Descent took 14 minutes, the overall dive with deco almost 14 hours, and Gabr, a special forces officer in the Egyptian Army and diving instructor for 17 years, used 92 tanks.
